Finished Percival Pundragon Cover (w/ text and title)

Here is the finalized cover for The Legend of Percival Pundragon: Chapter 1 - The Mushroom Prophesy

Things are coming along and I hope to have the Kickstarter campaign up soon.

On a side note... I played Hero Quest with my two boys (7 and 5 yrs old) last night. That was hilariously fun. They really got into it and started theorizing and strategizing.

full Color Percival Pundragon piece

Here it is... the full color version of the piece. To see the line drawing (click here).

I've introduced a few teaser characters in this piece that have not yet shown up in the comic... just call me Teaser McTeasington of Teashire.

Anywho... This was a fun piece to work on. As I've said before, I love drawing people in peril.

If you haven't yet, you can follow Percival and Newt's adventures in the comic: The Legend of Percival Pundragon.

It's on Facebook, or Comic Fury

Some Line Art for a new Percival piece.

Here is a work in progress piece for The Legend of Percival Pundragon.

This piece features the first actual view of King Tortle! the main antagonist of the story. Don't he look mean. Wait... he reminds you of somebody? I hope so.

This was a fun piece to work on. I always love drawing people in peril. That could be a whole series... "people in peril". I'll look into that.

Anyway... I'll post the color version in the near future.... stay posted as I post postings.

oh, and you should go read the story so far: on Facebook or Comic Fury.

I posted the line drawing a while back... but now you get to see it in full color spectrum.
I have to say... the color part has always been my favorite part.

More to come. Just the Text and stuff waiting.

Percival Pundragon Cover WIP... and page 5!

Here's the finished line drawing for the cover of The Legend of Percival Pundragon, chapter 1.

This was really fun to show a few of the different characters and creatures in one illustration. I also wanted to hint a little more at the video-game influence of the comic book (He's pulling a "Link" with that wooden sword for those not familiar with Zelda)

Right now the first 5 pages are up for reading.... for free!

Troll Close Up

Right now I'm working on a somewhat larger piece, and loving it. So, anyways, here is a close up of a section of the in progress illustration.

I'll keep you updated as it gets closer to being finished.

If you have any questions about freelance work or would like a quote send me an email.

Critics Wanted for Goblin on Giant Armadillo

As you can see I ended up going in a completely different direction than I had planned in the last post. I like it better.... HOWEVER, I want to improve my game.
So... load the cannons and light the fuses.
I would love some honest, constructive criticism. Tell me what you like, what you don't like and why, how it tickles you, the reasons it makes you ill, the ways in which it offends your very core... anything you feel like telling me... about the image (no personal jabs please, I'm not that thick skinned)

Thanks...

Again, I am open for illustration work. Contact me for more info or a quote.

The Village Idiot and the Ogre

Sorry everybody, it's been a while I know. Okay, as promised, here is a Work In Progress update on the Ogre piece.

Obviously nowhere near where I want it to be. With classes coming closer to an end and my job duties changing at Blue Table Painting, life has become life.

Thanks for the patience and all that blah blah blah.

Oh, so... The Wife and I went to an awesome show last night at the Capitol Theatre in Salt Lake City. It was Radiolab Live: In The Dark. What a fantastic blend of music, dance, comedy, and science. The whole night was a show discussing the topic of darkness (not being evil, just the absence of light). The comedian Demetri Martin was part of the show and had Melissa and me to the point of tears.
Anyway, here is a link, just in case you are not familiar with RADIOLAB, my favorite podcast.

Sneaky Ogre

Okay,

I didn't like the new look of the blog the past couple weeks so I reverted back to the good old days... mmmmmmmmm... welcome home.

A few weeks ago, in class we were given the assignment to create an illustration including an Ogre, and a whole huge list of other things. It was a great exercise but in class we stopped short of doing a final piece. Anyway, I liked the composition enough that I feel inspired to take it to a final piece, and share the process with you.

Anyway,  Here are the thumbnails I worked up.

After narrowing down to the Thumbnail I felt was working the best I reworked it paying a little closer attention to positioning.

Then came the comp in which I payed attention to detail and placement even more.

this is as far as we got in class... which left me all gung ho to do more! So, I've brought the comp into Photoshop and have begun messing around with it.

Next time I'll post my progress on the piece.

yeah... art stuff.

Dairy... uh, Ice... Queen

Please pardon the horrible quality of the below image. 'Twas with my iPod.

All the same... this was a painting I started last year and never finished.
The other day I was bit by the inspiration teeth and decided to work on it some more.

So below is the very beginnings of breathing life back into this unfinished piece.
I brought it into Photoshop and worked on redrawing the original sketch focusing on adding more movement and flavor to the line work.

So my goal is to take you through a magical "work in progress" journey.

One that will hopefully end in delicious turkish delight of one form or another.
